Moda Blockheads 6: Block One

Share

Hi everyone so excited to be block numero UNO for the Moda blockheads 6! Can you believe this is year 6? How cool is that?
If you’re new and have no idea what Moda blockheads is…no worries head on over to the Moda blog and you can get all caught up on how it works! I’m block number 1 and this lovely block is called “Regatta”

I grew up in Southern California, and in Marina Del Rey, there are several Regattas throughout the year. Don’t know what a regatta is? To put it simply it’s a race of boats. Historically speaking, sail boats. I grew up watching from the sidelines whenever my family would head over for the special occasions. I used to watch the sails snap into motion when it would catch the wind and pull the boat to life.
This block’s points reminded me of the taut sails full of wind and racing against other boats.

I chose to use my latest fabric collection with Moda called Color Crush. It had the perfect blues in it.

But I had so much fun picking out fabric for one block that I chose to do a warm color option as well with the golds and magentas.

Please download the block from the Moda website to get the full instructions.

Moda Blockheads 6

I wanted the scrappy look:

Especially for the background. So I pulled the gray backgrounds from the collection (found in stores now, spring of 2025).

Of course, obnoxious needy pants had to be a “helper” all the way from picking the fabric, to cutting the fabric, and then of course, final inspection. He approves but only because he decided that it was great  that we have  a sewing space again and he finally gets to lay out on top of my piles of fabric.

We just moved after selling our house (too quickly, it caught us by surprise) and we have been in temporary apartment living (which means no sewing space for me) now I get the whole upper loft all to myself! (Ahem and it’s for guests as well when they come to visit or when college kids come home for a hot second)
It’s a cute (okay, maybe not totally cute yet but it has potential and we plan to slowly make improvements) small 1950’s cottage. More of that later on!
But for now I plan to work on these blocks and spread out and not have to worry about picking up after myself…well except for when captain needy pants decides to play in my space without me.

I’m so excited with how they turned out! What colors will you pick???
Thank you so much for coming and checking out my blog, it’s been fun to get back into it!
